Spooky Pumpkin Cookies


3 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 1/4 teaspoons ground ginger
1 1/4 teaspoons allspice
1 1/4 teaspoons ground clove
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
1/2 cup light molasses
1 egg


Mix flour, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, cloves, baking powder, and salt. Beat brown sugar and butter in a large bowl with electric mixer until fluffy. Beat in pumpkin, molasses, and egg. On low speed, gradually beat in flour mixture. Divide dough in half. Cover and chill 2 hours. Preheat oven to 350°. Roll half of dough at a time to 1/4 -inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Cut with floured cutters. Place on greased baking sheets. Bake 8 to 10 minutes. Cool on wire racks. When cool, decorate with colored icing if desired. After icing sets, store loosely covered.
